Focus of Medical Engineering on Medical Instrumentation
Various devices that are used in different areas of application: Diagnostics: Blood pressure meters, EEG or ECG systems, X-ray and ultrasound instruments, lab diagnostic instruments. Therapy: surgical instruments, intelligent equipment for minimal invasive surgery, endoscopes, surgery microscopes, medication dosage, equipment for dental and ENT-medicine Rehabilitation: Implants, cardiac pacemakers, implantable hearings aids, prostheses, equipment for rehabilitation (exercise equipment, wheel chairs, service-robots)

Medical engineers are employed in research and development, in design, manufacturing, marketing and product management, sales or quality and product management for medical devices.

Focus of Medical Engineering on Biotechnology
Biotechnology is based on cell culture techniques, bioreactors, enzymes and protein techniques, genetic and immuno-engineering, and photonics, etc. Because of the increasing complexity in the area of living structures, biotechnology engineers will have to fulfil the requirements of industry, hospitals and chemistry Due to their comprehensive education in engineering, they will be significantly involved in the development of new equipment, instruments or methods.

Standard period of study: 7 semesters including the practical semester Graduation degree: Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)
