The “Studentenwerk“ is a public-law institution which is responsible for all students and student needs. It manages the cafeterias, the student restaurants (Mensa), takes care of special rates on public transport (Semesterticket), accommodation, financial assistance and cultural events. All enrolled student pay a semester fee as a contribution to the funding of these services.
