Health insurance

In Germany every student needs medical insurance (with a private or a
public health insurance company). Without health insurance you cannot be
matriculated at any university in Germany! |

Students from countries which have a social security agreement with
Germany, i.e. students form EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway,
Switzerland, Tunesia, Turkey and former Yugoslavian countries, do not need
to obtain a health insurance in Germany. They only need to show proof of
health insurance coverage in their home country. Ask your insurance company
for an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card). |

Students with a private health insurance in their home country need a
confirmation in English or German stating that all costs will be covered if
medical treatment is required. With this document they can go to any public
health insurance and apply for an exemption from the compulsory German
health insurance. |
