Degree Course Structure

Students will graduate from this degree course after 7 semesters.
The course is divided into an introductory study period (2 semesters) and
a main study period (5 semesters). In the introductory study period the
basics of medicine, business studies, mathematics, and computer science
will be taught. In the main study period the teachings in these areas will
focus primarily on the health care sector. |

In the 6th semester the students will
have to complete their practical project, in order for them to become
familiar with information management work scenarios in the health care
sector. It will last 22 weeks and the students have the possibility to
carry out their internship in health care centres, insurances, health care
authorities or research institutes, and if they are interested they can
also take the internship abroad. The professional support during the
practical project will prepare them for the independent and
project-related way of working in their future job. |

In order to establish their core focus, the students have to take 6
compulsory optional modules, of which at least two have to be technology
or business centred. |

In order to prepare the students for their future career, the degree
course includes an introduction to scientific work, Business and Technical
English in order to prepare them for jobs in the health care sector on an
international level, and communication and moderation seminars to
encourage their ability to work in teams. Many courses include
presentations, and several modules are accompanied by e-learning
modules. |

The final part of the degree course is the Bachelor’s thesis, which
the students usually write at an external institution – if desired abroad.
But there is also the possibility to write the thesis at Ulm
University. |

In total the compulsory and compulsory optional modules add up to
144 contact hours, and 210 ECTS credits, which equals 60 ECTS credits per
year. |
