I would like to welcome you to the homepage of the department of
electrical engineering and information technology, and am delighted by your
interest in the opportunities which we have to offer. |

Our society is at present undergoing fundamental change from a
production-oriented to a service economy - a process which affects all areas
of life. It began as a result of the rapid changes in information and
communication technology, which are apparent to all through the daily use of
the internet and mobile phone. Our department’s teaching has a decisive role
in shaping and developing these technologies. |

This process is by no means complete; in fact, it has only just
started, and will become even more significant in the coming decades. We
have an opportunity to shape these technologies responsibly and with regard
to the needs of our fellow human beings. Should you decide to study one of
these high-tech subjects, you can certainly expect your job to be an
interesting one after graduation. Current research suggests that students
starting a degree in electrical engineering and information technology have
the best job prospects in all subjects (alongside maths and physics). |

Our department places particular importance on working closely with
well-known companies and their research and development departments. For you
as a student, this means that you will very quickly come into contact with
some of the best companies during your practical semester, allowing you to
gain an impression of what it is like to work in the field and form a
personal relationship with the project teams. This has always proved an
advantage for our graduates in finding employment. Several important firms
are based either in Ulm itself or in the immediate area. |

In a study comparing 80 universities throughout Germany with courses
in electrical engineering, our department held joint first place (together
with four other universities). This give us the ability to offer you a top
quality, state-of-the-art education, with the best supervision. Obviously, a
demanding course will not always be pure fun, but the welcoming city of Ulm
on the river Danube offers plenty of opportunity for relaxation, with its
cosy alleyways and quarters and numerous cultural attractions. It is also a
city with easy accessibility and continues to have reasonable rents. |

I would be delighted to welcome you to Ulm. |
